Rossville Senior High School Maintains Academic Excellence in State and National Rankings

ROSSVILLE — Rossville Senior High School continues to be recognized among Indiana’s leading public high schools in the 2026–2027 U.S. News & World Report Best High Schools rankings.

Rossville ranked No. 34 among Indiana high schools, No. 1 in the Frankfort metropolitan area, and No. 1,809 nationally. With nearly 18,000 public high schools included in the rankings, Rossville remains among approximately the top 11 percent of ranked high schools nationwide.

In the 2025–2026 rankings, Rossville was ranked No. 20 in Indiana and No. 1,310 nationally. While the school’s state and national positions changed this year, Rossville maintained its No. 1 ranking in the Frankfort metropolitan area and continues to rank among the highest-performing public high schools in Indiana and across the country.

Year-to-year rankings may fluctuate as student data, evaluation criteria, and the number and performance of schools included in the rankings change. For a smaller rural high school with a graduating class of about 60 students, even modest changes in a single data category can noticeably affect its overall ranking. The latest results nevertheless demonstrate that Rossville continues to provide students with a high-quality education and strong preparation for life after graduation.

“Although rankings naturally change from year to year, Rossville Senior High School continues to demonstrate a sustained level of academic excellence,” said Dr. Jim Hanna, Superintendent of Rossville Consolidated School District. “Remaining the top-ranked high school in the Frankfort metropolitan area and among the leading high schools in Indiana and the nation is a significant accomplishment. This recognition reflects the continued commitment of our students, educators, staff members, families, and community.”

Rossville students continue to benefit from access to rigorous academic opportunities. Fifty-seven percent of students participate in Advanced Placement coursework and examinations. These opportunities, combined with dual-credit courses and other college and career pathways, allow students to challenge themselves academically and prepare for their next steps after high school.

U.S. News & World Report evaluates schools using several indicators, including college readiness, college curriculum breadth, performance on state-required assessments, the achievement of traditionally underserved students, and graduation rates. These measures assess how effectively schools prepare and support all students.

As the only high school in Rossville Consolidated School District, Rossville Senior High School combines rigorous academic programming with the individualized attention and strong relationships found in a close-knit school community. Twenty-seven percent of its students are identified as economically disadvantaged, further demonstrating the importance of providing meaningful opportunities and support for every learner.

The district views the rankings as one measure of performance and an opportunity for continued growth. Rossville remains committed to expanding access to advanced coursework, strengthening targeted academic support and providing pathways that prepare students for college, careers, military service and other postsecondary opportunities.

“Our focus is not simply on a ranking,” Hanna said. “Our priority is ensuring that every student is challenged, supported, and prepared for a successful future. The continued recognition from U.S. News & World Report affirms the quality of the educational experience Rossville provides while encouraging us to continue improving.”

Rossville’s sustained performance represents more than a number. It reflects the daily work of students and educators, the partnership of families and the community’s enduring commitment to educational excellence.
